You can choose your chat density settings between Comfy or Compact in Microsoft Teams Free on desktop or web.  Depending on your monitor size and viewing preference, you can decide if you want to read more text at once or read less at a more comfortable level in your chat messages. Teams Free allows you to customize your chat density settings to best suit your needs.

Show more text in compact mode

By default, chat density is set to comfy mode. If you'd like to see more text, you can change this in your settings.

  1. Open Settings Settings button.

  2. Go to Appearance Teams video effects in Mac.

  3. Under Chat density, select Compact.

Your chat messages will now be more condensed, with less space between messages. You'll also have a more compacted view of your chat list. Message previews are hidden by default in compact mode.

Show more space in comfy mode

If you'd like to switch back to comfy mode, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings Settings button.

  2. Go to Appearance Teams video effects in Mac.

  3. Under Chat density, select Comfy.

You now have more space between messages. Message previews are shown by default in comfy mode.

Show or hide message previews

Message previews are shown in the chat list by default in comfy mode, and hidden by default in compact mode. To customize your chat list no matter what chat density you choose, go to Settings Settings button> Appearance Teams video effects in Mac > Chat density. There you choose to Show message previews in your chat list by toggling On or Off.
